In an isolated, abandoned house, three strangers take refuge from relentless masses of birds that viciously attack everyone exposed. Their claustrophobic existence becomes even more treacherous as paranoia creeps into their refuge and they become obsessed with the need to escape. Inspired by Daphne du Maurier’s short story, the basis for Alfred Hitchcock’s legendary film, this suspenseful adaptation is compelling, edge-of-your seat drama.

Midnight Movies:

Midnight Movies: "RE-ANIMATOR" at Enzian

Midnight Movies: "RE-ANIMATOR" at Enzian

About the movie:
H.P. Lovecraft and Lucio Fulci did not team up to make the most amazing gore-sex grotesquerie of 1985 — but thanks to RE-ANIMATOR, they didn’t have to. Director Stuart Gordon and producer Brian Yuzna’s joint debut feature, this epochal, awe-inspiring amalgam of FRANKENSTEIN, THE BEYOND, and REVENGE OF THE NERDS is where science meets chaos to produce an hyperactive overdose of gruesome insanity.

Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) is a new Miskatonic University student who also moonlights as a mad scientist, intent on perfecting a serum that “re-animates” corpses. Soon, everyone wants a piece of the action, including an evil professor and his army of slime-covered deadites. With berserker theatrics, career-defining roles from horror icons Combs and Barbara Crampton, and a scene of two adults chasing an undead cat in a basement, RE-ANIMATOR isn’t just a masterpiece of the horror genre — it’s a masterpiece of life.

Midnight Movies: "THE HILLS HAVE EYES"

About the movie:
New 4K Restoration!

From the mind of Wes Craven, THE HILLS HAVE EYES stands alongside the likes of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD as one of the defining moments in American indie horror.

Taking a detour whilst en route to L.A., the Carter family is in deep shit when their campervan breaks down in the middle of the desert and they find themselves at the mercy monstrous cannibals lurking in the surrounding hills. With their lives under threat, the Carters are forced to fight back by any means necessary.

Horror master Craven achieved critical and commercial success with the likes of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and SCREAM — but for many genre fans, the director’s seminal ‘77 effort remains his masterpiece.

USA, 1977, 89 minutes, Rated R, Directed by Wes Craven

HAUNTED WEKIVA ISLAND?

HAUNTED WEKIVA ISLAND?

Wekiva Island may not seem haunted on a sunny, summery Florida day but legend has it that a former owner of the property has been hanging around for years. The Dowd family purchased Wekiva Marina Restaurant from former Orange County Commissioner Cliff Freeman in 1990 after it had once been a fish camp and was rumored to have been a brothel. The head of the household, Mr Dowd was rumored to have died on the property but continues to make his presence known, appearing as a shadowy figure in the doorways during opening and closing. Employees report other strange happenings while working alone – bottles falling off wall displays, lights flickering, and unexplained noises coming from seemingly unoccupied parts of the building. Prior to the fire that destroyed the original structure, employees said that the ghost was especially active and could be heard stomping up and down the ramps around the island. Perhaps that was him trying to warn them about impending events? Thankfully, the ghost has been described by all who have come into contact as friendly, with staff viewing his presence as more entertaining than threatening.
