Dachra at the Florida Film Festival

Dachra at the Florida Film Festival

This is showing as a part of the Florida Film Festival. We suggest getting your tickets early to avoid sell outs!

About the movie:
Creepy, bloody and extreme, Dachra is a visceral, thinking-man’s folk horror flick. The title refers to a place and a cult of goats, silent women, mystery meat, and a jovial, menacing cult leader. Enter at your own risk, á la The Blair Witch Project (FFF 1999), as three squabbling journalism students are drawn into a cold case of a woman involved in witchcraft and now a mental patient. Yasmine, the female student, seems strangely drawn to Mongia, the supposed witch, and numerous unexplained nightmares and events pull us into the weirdness of the cult. “Inspired by true events,” announces the film, and the sense of dread and impending evil looms large and gets worse, with eating and cooking scenes becoming more unsavory as the film proceeds. What separates the sheep from the goats is the film’s final twist, which is killer. Dachra is not for the faint of heart, but this chilling and atmospheric mystery, the first Tunisian horror film to ever make an international splash, is definitely for a cult audience.

KNIFE + HEART at the Florida Film Festival

KNIFE + HEART at the Florida Film Festival

This is showing as a part of the Florida Film Festival. We suggest getting your tickets early to avoid sell outs!

About the movie:
Dildo knives. Leatherface masks. Unabashedly queer and affectionately comedic. It’s Giallo meets DePalma in this French crime thriller that follows Anne Parèze (Vanessa Paradis) as an aspiring gay porn auteur who does her own investigation of a string of murders in her industry in 1979 Paris. Former lovers, Anne and Lois run a male adult film studio. Lois edits in a dimly lit editing bay while Anne brashly directs a misfit troupe of actors through silly sex, melodramatic storylines, and the occasional tender moment. Things start to get terrifying for this odd assembly of misfits when a leather-clad stranger starts brutally stabbing actors one by painful one. As Anne tries to win Lois back, she and the actors become amateur detectives in the face of the failed police investigation. Acclaimed director Yann Gonzalez (a 3-time Cannes Film Festival veteran) brings us cuts, slices, ‘70s film grain, and gay sex that is equal parts kinky and kitsch—all wrapped up with a dreamy soundtrack by electro-dream pop band M83. Custom made for a midnight audience, Knife + Heart is nothing less than a guilty pleasure of both film and flesh.

IN FABRIC at the Florida Film Festival

IN FABRIC at the Florida Film Festival

This is showing as a part of the Florida Film Festival. We suggest getting your tickets early to avoid sell outs!

About the movie:
Acclaimed British director Peter Strickland (Berberian Sound Studio, The Duke of Burgundy) has come up with his most demented vision to date with this beguiling, sinister, and darkly comic ghost story featuring an entrancing cast including Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Gwendoline Christie. Like a perverted cross between Phantom Thread and Suspiria, In Fabric is set against the backdrop of a bewitching department store run by an unusual coven during a busy winter sales spree. Taking place within the world of 1970s fashion, this outrageous blend of camp and horror follows the lives of various characters as they are pulled into the orbit of a cursed scarlet dress that seems possessed by the devil. A psychosexual phantasmagoria results from the demonic garment’s unholy hold on its victims, taking a lonely woman, a young male shopper, and a washer repairman down a terrifying path splashed with blood and other bodily fluids. Part surreal thriller and part Giallo love letter, the hypnotically original In Fabric is a nightmarish vision of materialism and obsession.
