UNDead in the Water in Tampa

UNDead in the Water in Tampa

This event runs on select dates September 23-October 31. Check their website for tickets and dates.

About the event:
UNDead in the Water is Tampa's premier authentic nautical haunted attraction. Traverse multiple decks of this historic WWII cargo ship armed only with nerves of steel and a will to survive.

12 NIGHTS IN OCTOBER

In its fourth iteration, a new UNDead in the Water theme threatens passengers across 60,000 square feet of cavernous cargo holds and open-air decks.
Red skies in the morning, sailors take warning.
The American Victory Ship has drifted back to Tampa after a violent hurricane blew the vessel off course and a powerful electric charge enveloped the ship in the Bermuda Triangle . Frantic communications for the first few hours then led to an eerie silence. 15 corpses were found in a gutted lifeboat and a third of the crew is unaccounted for.
The remaining sailors tell horrific stories of a cryptic female apparition who calls to them.

Who is she and what does she want?

Carrie: the Musical at Theatre West End

Carrie: the Musical at Theatre West End

Happening: October 28- 30

About the event:

High School students put on a fully-staged pre-professional production of Carrie The Musical.

Carrie White is a teenage outcast who longs to fit in. At school, she’s bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she's dominated by her loving but cruelly controlling mother. What none of them know is that Carrie’s just discovered she’s got a special power, and if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it.

Set in the present in the small New England town of Chamberlain, Maine, Carrie: The Musical features a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose).

Blood Rage at Enzian

Blood Rage at Enzian

Happening on Freaky Friday, November 4 at 11:59pm

About the movie:

BLOOD RAGE

Todd and Terry are twin bros with twin problems — namely, one of them is an axe-wielding maniac! After a literal drive-in massacre, Todd is blamed for the carnage and institutionalized, while Terry goes free. Ten years later, Todd escapes from an asylum on Thanksgiving aka it’s time for blood to raaaaage!!  Produced by whip-smart filmmaker/actress Maryanne Kantor, directed by John Grissmer (SCALPEL), and shot in Jacksonville, Florida in 1983 for the drive-in theater circuit, but not released until 1987, BLOOD RAGE is what happens when you combine Thanksgiving, 1970s-star Louise Lasser (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, BANANAS), a killer synth score, and the most unbelievable gore effects in all of slasherdom, courtesy of Ed French (TERMINATOR 2). Just remember, “It’s not cranberry sauce!”

Audition at Uncomfortable Brunch at Enzian

Audition at Uncomfortable Brunch at Enzian

Happening Sunday, November 6 at noon

About Uncomfortable Brunch:

Delicious food. Good friends. Unsettling cinema.

Join us for Uncomfortable Brunch, where we juxtapose a pleasant social activity (eating brunch) with an unpleasant social activity (watching an uncomfortable, but important film). The movies offered in this series are academically important yet ridiculously uncomfortable art films that every cinephile SHOULD watch, but probably doesn’t WANT to, especially with a group. Let the fun begin!

About the movie:

AUDITION

One of the most infamous, impactful, and gut-wrenching Japanese horror films ever made returns to the big screen! Recent widower (and movie producer) Shigeharu is looking for a new wife. But instead of going the usual route, he decides to hold “auditions” for a movie that doesn’t exist. Shigeharu quickly becomes enchanted with Asami, a spooky twenty-something who is responsive to his charms. But things aren’t what they seem. AUDITION was the turn-of-the-millenium flash point that signaled the talent of Takashi Miike (ICHI THE KILLER). With this movie, Miike delivers a nerve-shredding exploration of male fears and the stereotype of submissive Japanese women. Shocking audiences worldwide with its white-knuckle finale and ingenious slow-burn build-up, AUDITION was responsible for creating a fresh new wave of Asian horror. And we’re eternally grateful.

Japan, 1999, 115 minutes, In Japanese with English subtitles, Rated R, Directed by Takashi Miike

Freaky Fridays THE SHINING: FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS at Enzian

Freaky Fridays THE SHINING: FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS at Enzian

Happening Friday, December 9 at 11:30pm

About Freaky Friday:

Freaky Fridays is a nose-dive into the weird, wild, and wicked world of genre films. A wasteland inhabited by a crude collection of Japanese cyberpunks, black ninjas, undead biker gangs, buxom cheerleaders, Italian serial killers, and future cinema stars who would rather forget their early screen appearances. Too crazy for primetime, these films will twist your senses, melt your brains, and make you jump from “why am I watching this?” to “I can’t believe I am watching this!”

Think you’ve seen it all? Think again, and get ready to get freaky!

About the movie:

THE SHINING: FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS

Immortalized in Rodney Asher’s documentary ROOM 237, THE SHINING: FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS is a masterwork of experimental video manipulation.  John Fell Ryan and Akiva Saunders’ hallucinatory palindromic love letter to Kubrick’s finely-tuned symmetric compositions.    Created in 2011, Ryan explained “we put the US DVD version into Final Cut, removed all corporate logos and leaders at the beginning, and cut all credits at the end. The entire film image sequence was then copied, reversed and superimposed over the original forwards version.”   What results is a mesmerizing acid trip experience of uncanny coincidences (or perhaps like the ‘satanic panic’ of the 1980s, secret hidden messages when played in reverse) wherein the images and themes contained in Kubrick’s film are at times contradictory and complimentary to the story being told.  In short, this is THE SHINING as you have never seen it (or dreamed it) before.  Join us on this rare journey into the literal and figurative fracturing of cinematic sanity and get ready to get freaky!

142 MIN, 1980/2011, Rated R, Directed by Stanley Kubric

It’s showtime! Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, this hilarious musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. With an irreverent book, an astonishing set, and a score that’s out of this Netherworld, BEETLEJUICE is “SCREAMINGLY GOOD FUN!” (Variety). And under its uproarious surface (six feet under, to be exact), it’s a remarkably touching show about family, love, and making the most of every Day-O!
